Is UCLA or UVA better for school spirit?

UVA has the stronger day-to-day sense of school spirit for most students. Its campus culture is more centered on shared traditions, a tighter undergraduate identity, and a stronger feeling that the student body rallies around the same events and symbols. UCLA absolutely has pride and huge athletic energy, but it often feels more spread out because of Los Angeles, the commuter element, and the sheer size and sprawl of the campus environment.

At UVA, school spirit is tied not just to sports but to traditions that shape student life across the year. Things like the Lawn, Rotunda, honor culture, and longstanding student rituals give the campus a more unified feel. Students often talk about UVA pride as something woven into everyday life, not just something that shows up on game days.

Sports culture is lively at both schools, but it lands differently. UCLA has major-name athletics, especially because of its historic basketball brand and strong overall sports presence, so big games can be exciting and high-profile. But because students are in a major city and often have many off-campus options, the energy does not always concentrate around campus in the same all-in way.
