Is the University of Michigan or Stanford better for alumni networking and career connections?

The biggest practical tradeoff is reach versus concentration. For internships and first jobs, both schools place well, but the shape of the support differs. Michigan offers the benefits of a huge public flagship with a deeply loyal alumni base and strong recruiting pipelines across many mainstream industries. Stanford can feel more plugged into elite opportunity channels, particularly in the Bay Area, where warm introductions and alumni adjacency can matter a lot.

Over the long term, Michigan may give you the broader all-purpose network, while Stanford may give you the denser high-leverage one. If the question is which has the more powerful alumni networking and career-connection ecosystem overall, I’d give Stanford the edge because its alumni network tends to punch above its size. If the question is which gives you the widest alumni reach across industries and geographies, Michigan makes a very strong case.
