That matters because plenty of students start pre-med and later pivot, and Michigan offers exceptional alternatives across disciplines. If you are the kind of student who thrives in a big, resource-rich setting and will actively seek office hours, advising, and research openings, Michigan can be just as strong a launchpad.

The biggest practical factor is where you are more likely to earn a high GPA while staying healthy and engaged. Med school admissions will care far more about your grades, MCAT, clinical exposure, and sustained service than about choosing between these two respected schools. Between them, Emory is often the more naturally convenient pre-med environment, while Michigan rewards students who want a broader, larger university experience and are ready to create their own path within it.
