Is Northeastern or Virginia Tech more fun for a college student?

The biggest tradeoff is city energy versus campus energy. Northeastern gives you Boston every day, with easy access to concerts, restaurants, internships, pro sports, and lots to do off campus, but the social scene is more spread out because students are dispersed across the city and many rotate in and out on co-op. Virginia Tech is much more of a traditional college-town experience, where campus life feels centralized, school spirit is very visible, and it is easier to feel like everyone is part of the same scene.

If your definition of fun is constant activity and independence, Northeastern can be exciting. Boston itself becomes part of your college life, and students often like the freedom of exploring neighborhoods, going into the city with friends, and not feeling stuck in a college bubble. At the same time, some students say that because of co-op schedules and the urban layout, campus can feel less cohesive socially than a classic residential university.

Virginia Tech tends to come across as more consistently fun in the day-to-day student-life sense. Blacksburg revolves around the university, football weekends are a huge deal, and there is a strong community feel tied to traditions, clubs, and campus events. Students often describe it as easier to make spontaneous plans because more people live similar schedules and spend more time on or near campus.
