Should I choose Wellesley or Georgetown for a pre-law path?

For a pre-law path, Georgetown has the edge. It gives you unusually direct exposure to law, government, and policy through its Washington, DC location, strong political science and government offerings, and easy access to internships that can sharpen the reading, writing, and analytical habits law schools value.

Georgetown’s biggest advantage is proximity to the legal world. Being in DC makes it much easier to intern during the academic year at courts, think tanks, advocacy organizations, government offices, and legal nonprofits instead of waiting for summer. That kind of steady, term-time experience can help you test whether law is actually the right path while also giving you stronger material for future applications.

Wellesley is still an excellent option, especially if you want intense faculty attention and a small liberal arts setting. Its writing-focused academics, close advising, and strong alumnae network can absolutely prepare someone well for law school. In fact, for some students, the smaller classes and highly personalized mentorship may make it easier to earn strong recommendations and develop disciplined academic habits.

The main reason Georgetown comes out ahead here is not that Wellesley lacks rigor, but that Georgetown offers more immediate day-to-day connection to the institutions and careers that feed into law school. If your priority is the strongest combination of academics, pre-law advising, and regular access to legal or policy experience while still in college, Georgetown is the more advantageous place to build that path.
