Is Université Paris Cité or Sorbonne harder to get into for international undergraduate students?

Sorbonne Université is usually seen as the harder admit for an international undergraduate applicant, especially in the most in-demand tracks. It has a stronger global academic reputation, very high demand in fields like science, medicine, and humanities, and attracts a large pool of strong applicants from France and abroad. Université Paris Cité is also selective in some programs, but in general it is not as broadly viewed as the more competitive of the two.

The most important caveat is that French admissions are often decided at the program level, not just the university level. A license program taught mostly in French may have very different expectations from a selective health-related or science track, and international applicants also have to clear language and diploma-equivalency requirements that can be strict at both schools. So the answer is not one flat university-wide number in the way students sometimes think about US admissions.

Sorbonne tends to fit the applicant aiming for a more traditionally prestigious, academically intense environment and who is applying to one of its especially sought-after faculties. That is where the competition often feels sharper. If a student is targeting literature, philosophy, sciences, or other flagship areas with a strong academic profile and solid French preparation, Sorbonne is more often the place people describe as tougher to enter.

Université Paris Cité makes more sense to think of as competitive in a more uneven way. Some of its programs, particularly in health, science, and certain interdisciplinary areas, can be very demanding, but the university as a whole is less often treated as the more selective name overall. For an international undergraduate applicant, your intended subject, the language of instruction, and whether you apply through the DAP or another route will matter more than the headline university name alone.
