Hopkins gives you exceptional proximity to a world-famous medical ecosystem, including the Johns Hopkins Hospital and major research opportunities tied closely to medicine. Vanderbilt also has a major medical center and excellent access to clinical and research experiences, but many students find the social atmosphere and campus life more rounded and less dominated by pre-med identity.

For pre-med specifically, both schools can get you to medical school if you perform well. Hopkins has a long-standing reputation for very serious science students, and that can translate into a more intense atmosphere around classes like chemistry, biology, and physics. Vanderbilt is still challenging, but students often describe the environment as more collaborative and more conventionally enjoyable as an undergraduate experience.
