Tufts or Boston College for finance careers?
I’m trying to decide between Tufts and Boston College, and I’m mostly interested in breaking into finance after college.
Both schools seem strong, but I’m not sure which one has the better overall path for recruiting, networking, and getting a first job in finance.

Boston College has the clearer edge for finance careers. Its Carroll School of Management is a dedicated undergraduate business school, finance is one of its most established pipelines, and BC has especially strong alumni reach in Boston, New York, and on Wall Street-facing roles.
The biggest differentiator is recruiting structure. At BC, finance sits inside a business-school ecosystem with classmates aiming at similar paths, more directly relevant coursework early on, and a campus culture where investment banking, asset management, corporate finance, and consulting recruiting are very visible. That usually makes it easier to find finance clubs, interview prep, alumni guidance, and peers who already know the recruiting timeline.
The second differentiator is alumni network strength in finance specifically. Tufts has an excellent overall reputation and a loyal alumni base, but BC’s network is more concentrated in business and tends to show up more consistently in finance recruiting channels. For a first job, that matters because referrals, informational calls, and school-specific pipelines can make the process much more straightforward.
The third differentiator is academic positioning. Tufts is stronger as a broadly intellectual university with more cross-disciplinary flexibility, and it can absolutely place students into finance, especially if you are proactive. But for someone already leaning toward finance, BC gives you a more direct runway because the business curriculum, branding, and recruiting culture line up more neatly with that goal.
That does not mean Tufts is a weak option. If you strongly prefer Tufts’s campus culture, academic style, or want to keep open the possibility of shifting away from business, it remains a very credible path. But on recruiting, networking, and landing that first finance job, BC is the one that gives you more built-in support.
