Is Wake Forest or Notre Dame better for finance?
I'm trying to figure out which school would be the stronger choice if I want to study finance and eventually work in the field. Both Wake Forest and Notre Dame seem like great options, but I keep seeing different opinions about which one has the better reputation and opportunities for finance students.
I’m mostly looking for a general comparison of how each school is viewed for finance.

For finance, Notre Dame usually has the stronger overall national reputation and broader reach with employers, especially if you may want investment banking, Wall Street recruiting, or a large alumni network across major finance hubs. Wake Forest is still very well regarded, particularly in business-facing fields, and it can be an excellent place for a student who wants a smaller, more personal undergraduate experience with strong career support. In terms of pure name recognition in finance circles, Notre Dame tends to carry more weight nationwide, while Wake often shines through close advising and strong outcomes for students who really use its resources.
Notre Dame makes the most sense for the student who wants a highly visible brand in finance, a very loyal alumni base, and access to recruiting that extends well beyond one region. Its Mendoza College of Business is well known, and Notre Dame alumni are notably active in helping undergraduates break into competitive areas of finance. That matters because finance hiring often runs heavily through networks, and Notre Dame has a reputation for opening doors in cities like Chicago, New York, and other major markets.
Wake Forest fits the student who values a smaller-school atmosphere, close faculty attention, and a campus culture where it may feel easier to build relationships early. The School of Business is respected, and Wake has a strong reputation with employers who know the school well, especially in the Southeast and in corporate roles more broadly. For a student who is proactive, polished, and looking for a high-touch environment rather than the biggest national brand, Wake can be a very smart path into finance.
If the question is simply which school is more highly viewed for finance at a broad national level, Notre Dame has the edge. If the question is where a student might thrive more personally while still having solid finance opportunities, Wake Forest can absolutely be the right answer.
