Is UMass Amherst or Brandeis better for psychology undergraduates?

For undergraduate psychology, Brandeis usually has the edge if you want a more intimate, research-oriented academic experience. Its psychology department is well regarded, the university has a strong overall emphasis on behavioral science and neuroscience, and undergrads often have closer access to faculty and labs because the school is much smaller. The psychology major there gives you access to a large department, a wider range of courses, and the energy of a major research university. That can be excellent if you are self-directed and comfortable navigating a bigger system to find research openings, advising, and mentorship. You may have more options overall, but you may need to be more proactive to turn those options into personalized opportunities.

If the question is which offers a stronger overall campus ecosystem with lots of academic and extracurricular options while still having a good psych program, UMass Amherst becomes very compelling.
