At UConn, the Storrs campus has a classic New England college-town setting with a lot of open space, academic buildings spread across a large main campus, and a more self-contained atmosphere. South Carolina’s Columbia campus is still substantial, but it is more urban, with blocks of campus blending into the city and a layout that often feels easier to navigate on foot between major spots.

One concrete difference is the setting around the campus. UConn is in Storrs, which is much more isolated and rural-suburban, so the university really dominates the area and student life centers heavily on campus itself. That can make the place feel immersive and traditional, but also means getting off campus is less seamless. South Carolina sits in downtown Columbia, so even when the campus is large, it feels connected to restaurants, shops, and city streets rather than existing as its own separate bubble.
