Georgetown or UVA for undergraduate business: which is the better choice?

I’m trying to narrow down my college list and both Georgetown and UVA keep coming up for business. I know they’re both well-regarded, but I’m not sure which one is generally considered the stronger option for an undergrad interested in business.

I’m looking at overall reputation and how well each school is known for helping students into business careers.

For undergraduate business, UVA usually has the clearer edge because McIntire is one of the most established and respected undergrad business schools in the country, and it has a very strong reputation with employers across finance, consulting, and general business. Georgetown is excellent too, especially through the McDonough School of Business and its Washington, DC network, but when people talk specifically about undergraduate business strength, UVA comes up very often as the more distinctive option.

One big differentiator is the program structure and brand of McIntire itself. UVA’s business school is built around undergraduate education in a way that stands out nationally, and its curriculum is known for being rigorous, practical, and heavily tied to recruiting. That makes UVA especially visible to firms looking for students who want traditional business paths right out of college.

Another difference is recruiting geography and employer perception. Georgetown benefits a lot from being in DC, which is a real advantage for students interested in consulting, policy-adjacent business, international business, and internships during the school year. UVA, though, has especially deep placement power in East Coast finance and consulting circles, and its alumni network in those areas is very strong.

Cost can matter too, especially if you are in-state for UVA. If the price difference is significant, UVA becomes even more compelling because its business outcomes and reputation are strong enough that paying much more for Georgetown is often hard to justify purely on career value. Georgetown carries a prestigious overall name, but for undergraduate business specifically, UVA is the one more people would point to first.
