Which is better for finance careers: Case Western or NYU?

The biggest practical tradeoff is access: NYU places you in New York City, right next to major banks, buy-side firms, and year-round internship opportunities, while Case Western gives you a smaller campus experience with less direct proximity to the core finance recruiting market. For finance specifically, that location advantage matters a lot because networking, in-semester internships, and alumni touchpoints are a major part of how students break in. NYU also has a much deeper brand association with business and finance, especially through Stern, than Case Western does.

If your main goal is maximizing finance recruiting and career outcomes, NYU is the stronger option. It has a much larger presence in investment banking, asset management, sales and trading, and related finance paths, and employers in those spaces are already used to recruiting NYU students. Even outside Stern, being at NYU can still put you closer to finance events, informational interviews, and part-time internships during the school year in a way that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

Case Western is a solid university with good academics and respectable outcomes, but it is not especially known as a finance pipeline school. Its strengths are more often associated with engineering, pre-med, and STEM-oriented fields. You can still reach finance from Case, especially with strong grades, internships, and networking, but the path usually requires more self-driven outreach and fewer built-in advantages.

One important detail is which NYU program you were admitted to. NYU Stern is on a different level from Case Western for undergraduate finance recruiting. NYU outside Stern can still be very helpful because of location and university brand, but it is not the same as being in Stern for employer attention and structured finance access.

So in a head-to-head comparison focused on finance reputation, recruiting, internships, and post-grad outcomes, NYU comes out ahead, and NYU Stern is the clearest winner of all the options here.
