Ohio State has the stronger football culture and school spirit by a wide margin. At Rutgers, football exists and people care, but it does not shape the overall campus atmosphere in the same way.

One concrete difference is how central Saturdays feel on each campus. At Ohio State, home games dominate the social calendar, and major traditions like Script Ohio, Skull Session, and the marching band are part of the experience even for students who are not die-hard sports fans. The stadium environment is massive and loud, and attendance energy tends to stay high because football is woven into the school’s identity.

Another difference is national relevance and expectation. Ohio State has a long history of competing at the highest level of college football, so students, alumni, and the broader community follow the team closely every season. That creates a much deeper everyday sports culture, where football talk carries into the week, rivalries matter, and school gear and Buckeye branding are everywhere.
