Is Rutgers or Temple better for city life?

Temple gives a much stronger city-life experience. Its main campus is in North Philadelphia, tied directly into the street grid, SEPTA transit, rowhouse neighborhoods, city businesses, and the day-to-day pace of Philadelphia. Rutgers, unless you specifically mean Rutgers-Newark, does not feel nearly as urban in everyday student life.

Temple students are living in Philadelphia, not just next to it. You can use regional rail, the Broad Street Line, buses, and a short train ride to Center City without needing a car, and the city is part of your routine rather than a weekend destination. Restaurants, concerts, museums, sports, internships, and neighborhoods are all much more woven into ordinary life there.

Rutgers-New Brunswick feels more like a collection of campuses spread across a college town and nearby suburban areas. There are things to do, and New Brunswick has restaurants, bars, and train access to New York and Philly, but students often rely on the campus bus system to move between campuses, and the environment is more campus-centered than city-immersed. It has activity, but not the same dense urban feel.

If you mean Rutgers-Newark, that changes the comparison somewhat because Newark is a real city campus with transit access and a more urban setting than New Brunswick. Even then, Temple usually feels more integrated into a major city’s daily rhythm, with a stronger sense that the city itself is part of the student experience.
