Is Northeastern or the University of South Carolina more fun for undergraduates?

The biggest practical tradeoff is city-based social life versus traditional campus social life. Northeastern gives you Boston, co-op energy, concerts, restaurants, pro sports, and a lot happening off campus, but the student experience can feel more dispersed because students are often rotating in and out for co-ops. South Carolina tends to offer a more centralized, classic college atmosphere, with a strong school-spirit culture, SEC sports, tailgates, and a campus community that feels easier to tap into on an average weekend.

If by “fun” you mean a lively, visibly social undergraduate scene where people gather around campus traditions, football weekends, Greek life, and a strong sense of everyone being in the same place, South Carolina probably feels more fun to more students. Columbia has plenty to do, but the social center of gravity is much more campus-driven, which often makes student life feel fuller and more cohesive.

Northeastern can absolutely be enjoyable, especially for students who like independence and want their social life tied to a major city. Boston offers more variety than a typical college town, and Northeastern students often take advantage of neighborhoods, internships, events, and the broader city culture. The catch is that Northeastern can feel less unified as a social environment. Co-op is a huge strength academically and professionally, but it does affect the rhythm of campus life.

So for pure undergraduate fun in the traditional sense, I’d lean University of South Carolina. Northeastern is often more exciting in a city-exploration, self-directed way, but South Carolina usually delivers the more immediately lively and communal student-life experience.
