Which has a stronger alumni network: University of Michigan or Brown University?

University of Michigan has the stronger alumni network in the broad, practical sense. Michigan’s alumni base is much larger, much more geographically widespread, and especially visible in business, engineering, consulting, tech, and major public-sector spaces. For internships and first-job outreach, that scale matters because there are simply more Wolverines in more companies, more cities, and more industries who are used to hearing from students.

Michigan’s size creates a very real volume advantage. Its alumni clubs are active across the country, and the school has a long-established culture of alumni showing up for recruiting, mentoring, and informational conversations. In fields where networking is numbers-driven, like finance, consulting, product, engineering, and large corporate recruiting, that breadth often translates into more doors to knock on.

Brown’s network is still excellent, but it tends to work differently. Brown often has a tighter-knit, more personal alumni culture, and graduates can be especially helpful in fields like academia, the arts, media, public service, entrepreneurship, and certain selective professional circles. Students sometimes describe Brown alumni as highly responsive and loyal, but the network is smaller, so it does not offer the same sheer reach across employers and regions.
