Is the University of Maine or Arizona State better for computer science?

Arizona State is the stronger option for computer science. Its CS program is larger, more nationally visible, and tied to a much bigger tech ecosystem in the Phoenix area, which matters a lot for internships, industry projects, and recruiting. ASU also has more extensive engineering and computing infrastructure through the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, so there are simply more labs, course options, and student organizations built around CS.

The biggest practical difference is location and employer access. ASU benefits from being in a major metro area with a growing semiconductor, software, and startup presence, plus regular recruiting from larger companies.

Academically, both schools can get you a CS degree, but ASU offers broader specialization and scale. You are more likely to find a wider range of upper-level electives, research groups, and interdisciplinary opportunities connected to data science, AI, cybersecurity, robotics, and engineering. For a student still figuring out which branch of CS they want, that flexibility is valuable.

University of Maine can still make sense if cost comes out much lower or if you want a smaller, less overwhelming environment. It may offer more direct access to some professors and a more intimate campus feel. But if the question is which school is stronger in computer science for academics, internships, and overall opportunity, Arizona State has the clearer edge.
