At UCLA, many majors have more upper-division electives, more specialized faculty, and more built-out student organizations tied to fields like engineering, business economics, film, public health, and the life sciences. That matters not just for prestige, but for day-to-day academic life: more classes to choose from, more research groups, and more chances to explore a niche interest without outgrowing the department.

Another difference is the surrounding environment.
