Which is better for finance careers: University of New Hampshire or Boston University?

The biggest practical tradeoff is access: Boston University puts you in a major financial hub with far deeper finance recruiting and internship options during the school year, while the University of New Hampshire offers a more traditional campus and often lower cost but a much smaller pipeline into high-finance roles. For finance specifically, location matters a lot, and BU’s Boston base gives students easier access to firms, alumni events, and semester-time internships. BU also has a broader national and international reputation, which tends to help more in competitive finance recruiting.

If your goal includes investment banking, asset management, equity research, or other selective front-office paths, BU gives you the stronger setup. Boston has a real finance ecosystem, and BU students can network and intern without needing to leave campus life behind for the summer only. The alumni network is also much larger in major business cities, which matters when recruiting is driven by referrals, informational interviews, and school presence at firms.

UNH can still work for finance, especially for corporate finance, commercial banking, regional firms, or if you are a very proactive student who builds experience early. Its business school is respected regionally, and being in New Hampshire can connect you to employers in northern New England and some Boston-area opportunities. But compared head-to-head, it is not as plugged into top finance recruiting channels, and you would likely need to do more of the networking legwork yourself.

So if the question is strictly which school creates the stronger path into finance careers, Boston University has the clearer edge. UNH becomes the better decision only if the cost difference is large enough that avoiding heavy debt outweighs BU’s stronger recruiting, internship access, and alumni reach.
