UC Davis vs NYU for internships: which school has better opportunities and access?

NYU has the clearer edge for internship access. Its campus is embedded in New York City, so undergrads can realistically intern during the semester across finance, media, tech, nonprofits, arts, healthcare, and startups without needing to leave town, and that day-to-day proximity matters a lot when employers hire part-time interns quickly.

Location is the biggest differentiator. At NYU, employers regularly recruit with the assumption that students can commute across Manhattan or nearby boroughs a few days a week, which makes semester internships much more available. At UC Davis, students do get strong opportunities, especially in research, government, agriculture, biotech, veterinary and environmental fields, but many internships are more concentrated in Sacramento, the Bay Area, or summer roles that require extra travel and planning.

Employer visibility is also different. NYU benefits from a constant flow of company events, alumni networking, guest speakers, and industry connections simply because so many organizations are nearby. That tends to make informal access easier, not just formal job postings. UC Davis has solid career support and useful pipelines, especially with California state government through Sacramento and with labs and applied science opportunities on and around campus, but the recruiting environment is less saturated on a daily basis.

The one area where UC Davis can feel especially strong is hands-on experience tied to campus resources. If your interests lean toward lab work, public service, environmental science, food systems, or pre-health research, Davis can offer meaningful undergraduate experience earlier and sometimes with less competition than a city internship market. But for overall breadth, frequency, and convenience of internships while school is in session, NYU makes access easier.
