UC Davis or Loyola Marymount: which has better social life for undergrads?

UC Davis tends to offer the more active and easier-to-plug-into undergraduate social life for most students. It has a true college-town setup, a much larger student body, and a campus culture where a lot of undergrads live near each other and spend time around the same parts of town. That usually makes spontaneous plans, club involvement, and casual friend-making feel more natural.

One big difference is the setting. UC Davis is built around the university in a way Loyola Marymount is not, so student life is less scattered. In Davis, downtown, apartments, coffee shops, campus events, and weekend hangouts are all tied closely to the student population. At LMU, being in Los Angeles gives you access to a lot, but it can also make social life more fragmented because people spread out, leave campus, and make plans in smaller circles.

The size and structure of the student community also matter. UC Davis has many more students and a huge range of clubs, orgs, cultural groups, recreation, and campus traditions, which increases the odds that a regular undergrad will find their people quickly. LMU is smaller and can feel more intimate, which some students like, but that also means the social scene can feel narrower and sometimes more dependent on residence life, existing friend groups, or who you meet early.

LMU does have a polished residential campus and a friendly atmosphere, and for some students that creates a warmer first impression than a large public university. But if the question is where the average undergrad is more likely to find a broad, constant, and easy-to-access social scene, UC Davis has the edge because the campus and town function as one social environment.
