Is Wake Forest or Lehigh better for engineering?

Lehigh is the better choice for engineering. It has a long-established engineering identity, a dedicated P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science, and a much clearer reputation among these two schools for traditional engineering fields. Wake Forest does not have the same depth in engineering, and its newer engineering offerings are not what the school is primarily known for.

One major difference is program breadth and infrastructure. Lehigh offers a fuller range of core engineering disciplines such as mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical, industrial and systems, materials science, and computer engineering, along with the labs, research culture, and faculty base that come with a school where engineering is a central part of campus. That usually translates into more specialized coursework, more established student project teams, and stronger recruiting pipelines in engineering-heavy industries.

Another differentiator is reputation in the field. Lehigh has been recognized for engineering for a long time, especially in the Northeast and among employers familiar with technically rigorous undergraduate programs. Its engineering school is one of the university’s defining strengths. Wake Forest has a strong overall academic reputation, but it is much more associated with liberal arts, business, pre-med, and the health professions than with engineering.

The student experience also tends to look different. At Lehigh, engineering students are part of a larger engineering community, so there is more of a built-in peer culture around design, labs, technical clubs, and internships. At Wake Forest, engineering can feel more niche because it is a smaller and less central part of the institution, which may appeal to some students but usually means fewer options and less visibility for the field.

If engineering is a serious intended major rather than just one possibility, Lehigh has the clearer edge.
