Is Georgetown or Princeton worth the cost for undergraduates?

For most undergraduates, Princeton is easier to justify at full price than Georgetown because it combines exceptional academics across fields with one of the strongest undergraduate-focused environments in the country. Georgetown can absolutely be worth it too, but the value case is usually strongest for students who specifically want politics, international affairs, policy, or a DC-centered career path.

Princeton makes the most sense for a student who wants a classic residential college experience where undergraduates are the center of the institution.

Georgetown is most compelling for someone who plans to take full advantage of Washington, DC from the start. If you want internships during the semester, proximity to government agencies, think tanks, NGOs, diplomacy, or political media, Georgetown offers access that very few schools can match. In that lane, the networking value is real and concrete.

If the price gap is large, I would be more cautious about paying a premium for Georgetown unless your goals clearly align with what Georgetown uniquely does well. Georgetown has a great reputation, but outside its signature strengths, the extra cost can be harder to defend for an undergraduate degree.

A practical way to think about it is this: pay more only if the school gives you something distinct that you are very likely to use. For a student aiming at public service, foreign policy, or Capitol Hill-type work, Georgetown can deliver that distinction. For a student still exploring, Princeton’s undergraduate experience and long-term brand reach tend to make the cost easier to rationalize.
