Carnegie Mellon vs. Columbia for undergraduate research opportunities: which is better?

I’m trying to compare Carnegie Mellon and Columbia as a high school senior who wants to get involved in research as an undergraduate. I’ve heard both schools have strong academics, but I’m not sure how easy it is to find professors, join labs, or get meaningful research experience as a first- or second-year student.

I’m mainly looking for a school where undergrads can realistically participate in research, not just talk about it on paper.
