University of Washington is the stronger overall choice for undergraduate engineering. Its College of Engineering has a deeper national reputation, stronger research intensity, and closer ties to major tech and engineering employers in Seattle. For a student who is still undecided within engineering, UW also benefits from broad strength across multiple engineering fields rather than relying on one or two standout areas.

One big differentiator is employer access. Being in Seattle puts UW students near a dense cluster of aerospace, software, biotech, clean energy, and manufacturing companies, and that shows up in internships, co-ops, and industry-connected projects. That location advantage is especially useful if you are not set on a specialty yet, because it exposes you to more kinds of engineering work during college.
