If you are entering a field where employer perception, recruiting depth, or graduate school preparation matters a lot, UMass can justify a moderate extra cost. The key word is moderate. If paying for UMass means substantial loans, that advantage can disappear quickly.

USF fits students who are being practical about cost and want a large public research university in a growing metro area.
