Is MIT or Brown better for computer science?
I’m trying to figure out which school would be the better fit for me as a computer science major. I know both MIT and Brown are well known, but I’m having trouble understanding how they compare in terms of academics, research, and overall CS opportunities.

The biggest practical tradeoff is structure versus flexibility. MIT gives you a more intensive, engineering-centered computer science experience with a highly technical campus culture, while Brown offers strong CS within a more open undergraduate experience shaped by its Open Curriculum. Both schools have excellent research access and strong outcomes in tech, but the day-to-day academic feel is quite different.
At MIT, computer science is deeply woven into the Institute’s identity.
