Which has better internship access for undergraduates: UNC or Fordham?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus campus scale: Fordham puts you in New York City, where internships are physically closer and often easier to do during the semester, while UNC offers a larger flagship-university ecosystem with strong employer recruiting and a broad alumni base, but many internships are less embedded into daily campus life. For sheer day-to-day accessibility, Fordham usually has the edge because students can commute to internships in finance, media, nonprofits, fashion, tech, and government offices while classes are in session. UNC absolutely produces strong internship outcomes too, especially through its large professional schools and recruiting network, but the access is often a bit more structured and less immediate than being based in NYC.

Fordham’s biggest advantage is that employers are nearby, which matters a lot for undergrads. Being in New York makes it easier to take on part-time internships during fall and spring, attend networking events, and turn short contacts into real opportunities. Its alumni presence in the city is also meaningful, particularly in business, communications, finance, and nonprofit fields.

UNC’s strength is the scale of its resources. It has a very large alumni network, strong school-based career support, and well-established pipelines in areas like business, media, public policy, healthcare, and research. Students can access internships in the Research Triangle as well, which is a real plus for tech, science, public health, and startups, though those opportunities are more regional and may require more planning around transportation and timing.

In terms of support, both schools offer career services and employer connections, but UNC can feel more expansive and systematized because of its size, while Fordham often benefits from the urgency and proximity of the city itself. If the question is strictly which school tends to make internships more accessible for undergraduates, Fordham comes out ahead. UNC is very strong, but Fordham’s NYC location makes semester-time internships and informal networking easier in a way that is hard to match.
