Is UC Davis or Brown better for pre-med?

For pre-med, that matters because you need to complete required science courses while also protecting time for meaningful extracurriculars, service, and MCAT prep. Brown’s advising structure, smaller scale, and easier access to professors can help with recommendation letters, research mentorship, and building a coherent narrative for med school applications.

UC Davis fits the student who is comfortable being proactive in a larger system and wants abundant science and clinical exposure. Davis has strong biology, neuroscience, public health, and research options, and its connections to UC Davis Health create real opportunities. But because it is a large public university, getting into certain classes, labs, or high-demand experiences can require more persistence, and the path can feel less guided unless you actively seek support.

On GPA, Brown usually has the edge.
