Should I choose UT Austin or the University of Miami for a business major?

UT Austin is the stronger pick for business.

One big differentiator is employer access. UT’s location in Austin and the scale of McCombs create a very active recruiting environment, with lots of internships during the school year as well as full-time pipelines after graduation. For an undergrad who wants broad options and a brand that travels well across Texas and beyond, that matters a lot.

Another difference is the academic ecosystem around the business school. UT offers a larger university setting with more specialized business resources, more student organizations tied to different career paths, and stronger crossovers with tech, entrepreneurship, and economics. That can be especially useful if you are still figuring out whether you want finance, marketing, MIS, real estate, or something else.

Miami has real strengths, especially if you are drawn to a smaller private-school environment, a more intimate campus feel, and ties to South Florida business sectors like hospitality, real estate, and some international business areas. Its location can be attractive, and some students prefer the social scene and climate there. But for pure undergraduate business strength and post-grad opportunity breadth, UT holds the edge more clearly.

Cost can also be a deciding factor. If UT is significantly cheaper, that makes the choice even easier. If Miami gave you a major scholarship and the price gap is substantial, then the comparison becomes closer, but on academics, recruiting, and overall business reputation, UT Austin comes out ahead.
