Wisconsin or Indiana for marketing: which school is better for a marketing major?

I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down my college list and I’m interested in marketing. Both Wisconsin and Indiana seem like strong options, but I’m having a hard time comparing them for that major.

I want to know which school tends to be the better choice for marketing overall, especially for things like class quality, internship opportunities, and career preparation.

For marketing, Indiana tends to have the clearer edge because the Kelley School of Business is especially well known for undergraduate business education, strong employer recruiting, and a very structured path into internships and career prep. If you want a business school experience that feels polished and professionally focused from early on, Indiana is often the one students lean toward. Wisconsin is also a strong option, but it tends to appeal more to students who want a broader big-state-school experience with excellent academics and a little more flexibility in how they build their path.

Indiana is a strong match for the student who wants marketing to sit inside a highly developed undergraduate business ecosystem. Kelley has a reputation for organized advising, lots of student business organizations, and strong access to recruiting pipelines, especially for brand management, sales, consulting-adjacent roles, and corporate internships. If career preparation is a top priority, Indiana often feels more intentional about helping undergrads package themselves for employers.

Wisconsin fits the student who wants a major university with a lot of energy, strong academics, and access to a respected business school without quite as much of the pre-professional intensity. The Wisconsin School of Business is well regarded, and being in Madison can be a real plus because it is a lively capital city with connections to companies, startups, and state-government-related opportunities. Students who are more independent and want to mix marketing with other interests may really like that environment.

For class quality, both schools are solid, but Indiana often gets more attention specifically for the undergraduate business experience. For internships and career readiness, Indiana usually feels more employer-facing and systematized. Wisconsin is still very credible, especially if you are self-directed, but if your question is which school has the stronger overall marketing setup, Indiana is the one I would place slightly ahead.
