Chicago’s location matters here: firms recruit heavily in the city, networking during the school year is easier, and the university has a strong brand in analytical, economics, and business-adjacent fields that consulting firms value.

UChicago fits the student who is comfortable in a more academically intense, theory-heavy environment and wants consulting as one of several high-powered post-grad options. A lot of students there are aiming at consulting, finance, research, or grad school, so the peer environment can be very career-focused in a rigorous way. For someone who likes a cerebral campus culture and wants frequent access to employers in Chicago, that setup can be a real advantage.

Notre Dame is very appealing for the student who wants strong consulting outcomes in a more community-oriented, undergraduate-focused environment. Its alumni network is famously loyal, and that can be especially helpful for referrals, mentorship, and navigating recruiting. Firms do recruit there, and students who are proactive can do very well, but the pipeline is often driven more by alumni support and structured campus recruiting than by being in the middle of a major consulting hub.

Notre Dame can be the better place for someone who values school spirit, tight community, and a more traditional residential college experience while still keeping consulting very much on the table. Mendoza also gives business-oriented students a clearer preprofessional ecosystem than UChicago’s more academic route.
