How do UPenn and Yale compare in campus size and feel?

The biggest practical difference is that Yale feels like a self-contained college campus woven into a small city, while Penn feels more integrated into a dense urban neighborhood with a faster, more city-driven rhythm. Yale’s undergraduate life is centered around its residential colleges and a clearly defined campus core in New Haven, so day to day it often feels more enclosed and traditional. Penn, in West Philadelphia, is still very walkable, but the campus blends more directly into surrounding streets, businesses, hospitals, and city activity.

In terms of size and movement, both are manageable on foot, but Yale usually feels more compact in the way students experience it. A lot of undergraduate life is concentrated in and around the residential colleges, libraries, dining halls, and central green spaces, so it is easier to get the sense that most things are part of one connected environment. Penn’s campus is also not huge, but it can feel more stretched along a main corridor, and the presence of graduate schools and professional schools makes the overall environment feel busier and less purely undergraduate.
