Which is better for internships: University of Maine or Drexel University?

The biggest practical tradeoff is built-in internship structure versus a more traditional college experience. Drexel is in Philadelphia and is especially known for its co-op system, which gives students repeated, formal work experiences as part of their academic path. The University of Maine can certainly lead to internships too, but students usually need to be more proactive in finding them, and the surrounding market is smaller.

For internship access overall, Drexel has the clearer advantage. Its location in a major city matters, but the bigger factor is that the school is organized around experiential learning in a way that makes employers part of the student experience from early on.

At Maine, opportunities often depend more on your major, your initiative, and whether you are willing to look beyond the immediate area, including summer roles in other cities. UMaine has solid connections in areas like engineering, environmental fields, marine sciences, and regional industries, and faculty mentoring can be a real strength. But it does not have the same built-in internship ecosystem or employer density that Drexel offers.

Another practical point is timing. At Drexel, many students graduate with substantial resume experience because co-ops are woven into the degree. At Maine, students can still build strong experience, but it often comes through summer internships, research, campus jobs, and networking rather than a signature schoolwide co-op model.

If internships are one of your top decision drivers, Drexel is the stronger pick. Maine can work well for a student who likes a more traditional campus setting and is comfortable taking more responsibility for finding opportunities, but for broad access and structure, Drexel stands out.
