Wake Forest or Boston College for marketing: which is better for an undergraduate marketing major?
I’m a high school senior trying to decide between Wake Forest and Boston College, and I’m interested in studying marketing in college. Both seem like strong schools overall, but I’m trying to figure out which one is better for an undergraduate marketing path.
I want to compare them based on the strength of the business program, internship opportunities, and how well they prepare students for marketing careers.

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus undergraduate business structure. Boston College gives you direct access to the Boston market, with a dense concentration of brands, agencies, startups, and alumni connections during the school year, while Wake Forest offers a smaller, more personal undergraduate business environment where it can be easier to get faculty attention and leadership roles early. For marketing specifically, both can work well, but they create different day-to-day recruiting advantages.
Boston College’s Carroll School of Management is very well regarded, and being in the Boston area matters for internships during the semester. For a student aiming at brand management, market research, advertising-adjacent roles, retail, sports marketing, or corporate marketing, that access can be a real edge because employers are close by and networking is easier to do repeatedly, not just over breaks.
Wake Forest’s business school is also strong, and one of its biggest advantages is the undergraduate focus. Students often benefit from smaller classes, closer advising, and a campus culture that can make it easier to stand out in clubs, student consulting, and business organizations. Wake’s career support is solid, and its alumni network is known for being engaged, but internship access is a bit less plug-and-play during the academic year than it is in Boston.
In terms of preparation, Boston College probably has the broader built-in runway for marketing careers because of location, employer proximity, and the strength of the BC network in major metro areas. Wake Forest can absolutely get you to the same kinds of outcomes, especially if you are proactive, polished, and want a more relationship-driven college experience.
If the question is strictly which school is better for undergraduate marketing, I’d give Boston College the edge. Wake Forest is still an excellent option, but BC is more likely to offer the smoother path to internships and marketing-relevant experience while you are still in college.
