Arizona State University vs University of San Francisco for finance careers: which has better recruiting and outcomes?
I’m trying to decide between Arizona State and the University of San Francisco for studying finance. I want to end up in a finance career after college, so I’m mainly looking at which school has stronger recruiting, internships, and overall outcomes for that path.
I know both schools have business programs, but I’m not sure how they compare in terms of getting finance jobs after graduation.

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale and alumni reach versus location and intimacy. Arizona State offers a much larger business ecosystem through the W. P. Carey School of Business, a broader alumni base, and more on-campus recruiting simply because of its size and employer volume. The University of San Francisco gives you direct access to the Bay Area, smaller classes, and easier proximity to internships during the school year, but its finance recruiting pipeline is narrower.
For finance careers specifically, ASU usually has the stronger overall recruiting infrastructure. W. P. Carey is a nationally visible business school with deep corporate connections, strong career services, and a large number of employers recruiting for finance, banking, corporate finance, consulting, and related analyst roles. Even if the very top Wall Street pipeline is not the school’s defining strength, ASU tends to produce more finance placements in absolute numbers and gives students more structured access to recruiters.
USF’s advantage is geographic, not volume. Being in San Francisco can help with internships during the semester, especially in wealth management, fintech, commercial banking, corporate finance, and smaller investment firms. But proximity does not automatically mean stronger recruiting. USF is not typically seen as a major target for high-finance recruiting, so outcomes can depend more heavily on your own networking and hustle.
If cost is similar, I would lean Arizona State for stronger recruiting breadth and more predictable finance outcomes. I would only put USF ahead if being in San Francisco during college is a major priority and you are comfortable taking a more self-directed approach to breaking into finance.
