Is Baylor worth it compared with SMU for undergrad?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Baylor usually offers a more traditional residential college experience with stronger school spirit and a cohesive campus culture, while SMU offers a more urban, professionally connected environment in Dallas that can translate into easier access to internships during the school year. In reputation, they are viewed as peer-level private universities in Texas, but they feel quite different on the ground. Baylor tends to stand out for campus community, pre-health, nursing, and a broad undergraduate experience, while SMU often gets extra attention for business, finance, and career access tied to Dallas.

Whether Baylor is “worth it” compared with SMU depends a lot on cost and your intended path. If Baylor is meaningfully cheaper for you, that matters a lot, because the two schools are close enough in overall prestige that a large price gap is hard to justify unless SMU offers a very specific advantage for your goals. SMU’s location is a real asset for students who want internships in business, media, consulting, or corporate settings early and often.
