How does campus life at UC Davis compare to NYU for undergraduates?

UC Davis has the more traditional undergraduate campus life. It has a true college-town setup, a defined campus, lots of students living nearby, and a day-to-day rhythm that revolves around the university in a way NYU usually does not.

At UC Davis, undergrad life feels concentrated. Students bike everywhere, spend a lot of time on or near campus, and social life often grows out of residence halls, student orgs, campus events, Greek life, and casual hangouts in Davis itself. Because the town is so tied to the university, it is easier to get that shared sense that most people are living a similar student routine.

NYU feels more urban and dispersed. There is a campus core around Washington Square, but it blends into New York City, so students are constantly moving between school and the city rather than staying inside a clearly bounded campus environment. A lot of social life happens through clubs, classes, internships, restaurants, neighborhoods, and friend groups spread across Manhattan and Brooklyn, which can make the experience feel exciting but also less unified.

That changes the social vibe in a real way. UC Davis tends to feel more relaxed, community-oriented, and visibly undergraduate-focused, while NYU can feel faster, more independent, and a bit more self-directed. At Davis, it is easier to run into the same people and build routine; at NYU, you often have to be more intentional about creating your community because the city offers so many directions to go.
