Which has better school spirit, Cornell or Boston College?

Boston College is usually seen as having stronger, more visible school spirit in everyday campus life. A lot of that comes from a compact residential campus where students gather for the same events, and a strong shared identity tied to BC traditions and Jesuit culture.

Athletics are the clearest difference. Boston College has the kind of sports culture that naturally drives school spirit. Students tend to show up in a more unified way for major games, and those events are a bigger part of the social calendar than they are at Cornell.

Campus layout also matters. BC’s campus is more centralized and residential, so school-wide traditions and game-day energy are easier to feel across the student body. At Cornell, the campus is larger and more spread out, and the student experience can feel more segmented across different colleges, programs, and social circles.

Cornell absolutely has pride and traditions, especially around hockey, slope day, and a strong alumni identity. But the spirit there often feels more dispersed than constant, while at BC it is more likely to show up in everyday student culture, apparel, and turnout. Boston College has the edge.
