RPI or Wake Forest for finance careers: which is better for investment banking and finance recruiting?

I’m trying to decide between RPI and Wake Forest and I want to study something that can lead into finance, especially investment banking or other competitive finance jobs.

Both schools seem solid overall, but I’m not sure which one has the stronger recruiting pipeline and alumni network for finance careers.

Wake Forest is the clearer pick for investment banking and traditional finance recruiting. It has a much more established pipeline into banks, asset management, and related business roles, and its alumni network is especially active in finance hubs like Charlotte, New York, and Atlanta. RPI is respected, but its strongest reputation and employer ties are more concentrated in engineering, technology, and quantitative fields than front-office finance.

A student who wants the most direct path to banking should lean toward Wake. The school has an undergraduate business program, finance-focused coursework, and a campus culture where careers in banking, consulting, and corporate finance are common targets. That matters because recruiting is partly about access and peer momentum: when more classmates are aiming for those jobs, schools tend to have stronger employer relationships, better prep resources, and more alumni willing to help.

RPI makes more sense for someone who likes the quantitative side of markets and could see themselves in quant finance, fintech, risk, analytics, or a finance-adjacent path tied to math, CS, or engineering. If you are entrepreneurial about networking, you can still reach finance from RPI, especially for roles that value technical rigor. But for classic investment banking analyst recruiting, you would likely need to push harder on your own and be more strategic about internships and outreach.

Another practical difference is the network shape. Wake’s alumni presence is more naturally plugged into client-facing business fields, while RPI’s network is powerful in technical industries. For a student specifically prioritizing investment banking, private wealth, sales and trading, or corporate finance leadership tracks, Wake usually offers the more relevant ecosystem from day one.

Wake Forest has the stronger platform. RPI is a good option if your interest is more technical and you want to keep finance, data, and engineering all in play rather than aiming narrowly at banking.
