For internships and hands-on experience alone, Northeastern usually has the edge. Its co-op program is a major part of the school’s identity. That matters because co-ops are often longer and more immersive than a typical summer internship, which can make it easier to build a resume and test out industries early.

UNC Charlotte is still a solid option, especially if you are interested in business, finance, accounting, engineering, or fields tied to Charlotte’s corporate presence. Being in Charlotte can make networking, part-time internships, and employer connections more convenient during the academic year. For a student who wants to stay in North Carolina or build a career in the Charlotte region, that local access can be very valuable.

The difference is that Northeastern tends to offer a more built-in pathway to work experience across majors, while UNC Charlotte often rewards students who are proactive about using the city around them. If internship structure, national employer reach, and repeated work terms are your top priority, Northeastern is the stronger choice. If cost matters a lot and you want practical access to employers in a major Southern city, UNC Charlotte can still deliver very good opportunities.
