Is UC Berkeley or McGill better for international students?

Berkeley has excellent international student infrastructure, a huge number of student organizations, and access to world-class research and internships, but the overall experience can be less cushioned. Housing pressure, cost of living, and the scale of the university can make adjustment harder, especially in your first year. The upside is that Berkeley’s academic reputation and location create exceptional opportunities, especially in tech, research, policy, and entrepreneurship.

On practical support, both schools have immigration advising and services for international students, but McGill often feels more straightforward for undergraduates who want a stable, student-friendly routine. Berkeley’s support exists, but students sometimes need to be more proactive because of the size and pace of the campus.

If the question is specifically which is better for international students in terms of feeling welcomed, adjusting smoothly, and having a manageable overall experience, McGill has the edge. If you are willing to trade some ease and comfort for a more intense environment with especially strong U.S.-based academic and career opportunities, Berkeley may be worth it.
