Which university has better internship opportunities: Duke or Georgia?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Duke tends to offer a more curated, high-touch path to internships through its smaller undergraduate population, strong alumni network, and close faculty access, while the University of Georgia often gives students a broader in-state and regional network with plenty of opportunities, but usually with more self-directed hustle. UGA can still be excellent, especially in business, media, public affairs, and roles tied to Atlanta or the Southeast, but the process is often less uniformly built around the student.

At Duke, students benefit from strong employer visibility, especially in finance, consulting, tech, healthcare, policy, and research. Durham is also part of the Research Triangle, which helps with internships in biotech, startups, public health, and research labs during the school year, not just in the summer. Duke’s smaller scale can make it easier to get advising attention, build faculty relationships, and tap alumni who are used to helping undergrads.

UGA has real strengths too. Athens itself is smaller, but Atlanta is a major asset for internships in business, entertainment, nonprofits, journalism, and government-related work, and UGA’s large alumni presence in Georgia is useful. Terry College of Business students in particular often do well with internship placement, and students who are proactive can build strong pipelines.

The difference is that Duke tends to create more consistent access across majors, while at UGA outcomes can depend more on your school within the university, your initiative, and how early you start networking. UGA becomes especially compelling when your goals are tied to Georgia, the Southeast, or specific programs where its local network runs deep.
