Is the University of Wisconsin or Ohio State better for internships?

Ohio State has the edge for internships overall. Its location in Columbus gives undergraduates easier access to a large in-state capital city job market during the school year, and the university has especially strong pipelines into business, government, healthcare, engineering, and large corporate employers based in or near Columbus.

One major differentiator is proximity to employers while classes are in session. At Ohio State, students can more realistically do part-time internships during the semester because Columbus is a major metro with state agencies, hospitals, startups, nonprofits, and major companies close to campus. That matters because semester internships often turn into longer relationships, stronger references, and earlier career momentum.

A second difference is sheer employer volume and campus recruiting breadth. Ohio State’s size and alumni network create a very broad recruiting ecosystem, especially for fields like finance, marketing, logistics, public policy, computer science, and engineering. There are plenty of Wisconsin students who intern successfully, but Madison’s market is smaller, so students may rely a bit more on summer internships or recruiting that requires relocation.

The third factor is what “internship environment” feels like day to day. Ohio State tends to offer more ways to build connections continuously through nearby employers, career fairs, and alumni in Columbus. Wisconsin is still excellent, especially if you are interested in Madison-based opportunities or are comfortable targeting Chicago, Milwaukee, or other cities for summers, but for an undergraduate who wants the easiest access to a wide range of internships, Ohio State comes out ahead.
