Is Adelphi or NYU better for psychology majors?

I’m trying to compare these two schools for psychology and figure out which one is the better fit overall for an undergrad psych major. I’m mainly looking at things like the quality of the program, opportunities for research or internships, and how strong the psychology department is for someone who wants to keep grad school in mind.

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale and access: NYU gives you a larger, more research-intensive psychology environment with far more connections across New York City, while Adelphi offers a smaller setting where undergraduates may find it easier to build close relationships with professors early. For psychology majors thinking about grad school, both can work, but they create very different undergraduate experiences. NYU tends to offer broader lab options, more specialized coursework, and stronger name recognition, while Adelphi can be appealing if you want more individualized attention and a less overwhelming campus environment.

At NYU, psychology benefits from the university’s overall research infrastructure and location. There are multiple labs, a wide range of subfields, and access to internships, clinical settings, hospitals, nonprofits, and research opportunities throughout the city. That matters for grad school because strong recommendation letters, research involvement, and relevant experience are often more important than the major title itself.

Adelphi has a solid psychology program too, and one of its real advantages is faculty access. In a smaller department, it can be easier to get to know professors well, join projects, and stand out.

If the question is which school is stronger specifically for undergraduate psychology with grad school in mind, NYU has the edge. Its department is deeper, its research ecosystem is broader, and the volume of nearby internship and lab possibilities is hard to match. Adelphi becomes the more compelling option mainly if cost is significantly better or if you know you would thrive more in a smaller, more supportive environment where faculty contact comes more naturally.
