Is Florida State University or the University of San Diego better for warm weather and sunshine year-round?

The University of San Diego has the better year-round climate if your priority is steady sunshine and mild temperatures. San Diego is known for a very stable coastal climate, with warm dry summers, comfortable winters, and far less humidity than most of Florida. Florida State in Tallahassee is definitely warm, but it has much stickier summers, more rain, and a greater chance of weather disruptions during hurricane season.

One major difference is humidity. USD benefits from Southern California’s coastal location, so the air usually feels drier and more comfortable even when it is sunny and warm. At Florida State, the heat often comes with high humidity, which can make late spring through early fall feel much heavier.

Another clear separator is seasonal consistency. San Diego stays relatively mild across the year, so you are less likely to deal with big swings between seasons. Tallahassee still has plenty of sunshine, but it gets more summer thunderstorms and occasional cooler winter stretches than people sometimes expect from Florida.

The day-to-day outdoor experience is also different. At USD, it is easier to count on weather that feels comfortable for walking around campus, being outside, or heading to the beach without worrying much about sudden storms. FSU offers lots of warm days too, but the climate is less predictable and more intense at certain times of year.

If “warm, sunny, and mild almost all the time” is the goal, USD is the clearer match.
