Is Boston University or Lehigh better for computer science?

For computer science, Boston University is usually the more recognized choice overall. BU has a larger and more visible CS ecosystem, sits in a major tech and startup hub, and gives students access to a wider range of research labs, electives, and internship pipelines tied to Boston’s academic and industry network. If you want the school that is more commonly seen as having the stronger overall CS presence, BU is the safer answer.

BU tends to fit the student who wants breadth and scale. Its CS program benefits from being part of a big research university, so you’re more likely to find specialized course options, interdisciplinary work across engineering and data-related fields, and a larger local market for internships during the school year. For a student who wants strong exposure to software, AI, systems, research, and city-based opportunities all at once, BU usually offers more.

Lehigh makes more sense for a student who wants a smaller university feel and closer-knit campus environment without giving up solid technical training. Its computer science program is respected and can offer more personal access to faculty and a more intimate academic community. Some students prefer that setting because it can be easier to stand out, build relationships with professors, and take on leadership or research roles earlier.

The tradeoff is that Lehigh does not usually carry the same level of broad name recognition in CS as BU, and its surrounding tech ecosystem is not as deep as Boston’s. So if the question is which school is more often considered stronger for computer science in a general sense, Boston University gets the edge.
