Indiana University vs Fordham for business: which is better overall?

I’m trying to decide between Indiana University and Fordham for business and keep seeing both come up in different conversations. I know they have different strengths, but I’m not sure which one is generally considered the better overall choice for a business major.

I’m mainly looking for a simple comparison of how they stack up for business in terms of reputation and value.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Indiana gives you a more established, nationally recognized undergraduate business experience, while Fordham gives you direct access to New York City and its internship market. For business reputation alone, Indiana’s Kelley School of Business is the stronger name and is much more prominent in undergraduate business recruiting. Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business is respected, especially in the Northeast and in finance-related circles tied to New York, but it does not carry the same broad undergraduate business brand as Kelley.

In terms of overall business strength, Indiana usually comes out ahead. Kelley is one of the most visible undergraduate business schools in the country, with deep alumni networks, structured career resources, and strong placement across accounting, finance, marketing, consulting, and management. Fordham can be very appealing if you want to build experience during the school year through internships in the city, and that location advantage is real.

For value, Indiana often has the edge too, especially if your cost is significantly lower there. Kelley’s reputation is strong enough that many students see it as a high-return option, particularly for undergrad business. Fordham can be worth it if the price is close to Indiana’s for you, or if being in NYC will meaningfully shape the kind of internships and network you want.

So if the question is which is better overall for business, Indiana University is the clearer pick in most cases because Kelley has the stronger undergraduate business reputation and broader national pull. Fordham becomes more compelling when New York access, urban environment, and semester-time internships matter enough to justify choosing it over the stronger business brand at Indiana.
