Is Indiana University or Purdue better for finance careers?
I’m a high school senior trying to figure out which school would give me a stronger path into finance after college. Both Indiana and Purdue are on my list, but I keep seeing different opinions about which one has the better reputation for finance jobs and recruiting.
I’m mainly looking for a general comparison of how each school is viewed for finance careers.

For finance careers, Indiana University is usually viewed more favorably than Purdue because of the Kelley School of Business. Kelley has a long-established reputation in finance, a larger alumni presence in business, and more structured recruiting pipelines for roles in areas like investment banking, corporate finance, and asset management. If your goal is a traditional undergraduate path straight into finance, Indiana tends to offer the clearer runway.
Indiana fits the student who wants a business-focused environment from the start. Kelley is one of the most recognized undergraduate business schools in the Midwest, and that matters because finance recruiting often depends on employer familiarity, alumni connections, and the school’s internal career infrastructure. Students interested in banking, consulting-adjacent finance roles, wealth management, or corporate finance usually find more classmates, clubs, recruiting prep, and employer attention built around those paths.
Purdue makes more sense for a student whose interests sit at the intersection of finance, analytics, engineering, technology, or operations. Purdue is very well respected overall, especially in technical fields, and that can translate well into finance careers that value quantitative ability, problem-solving, and strong analytical training. For example, roles in financial analysis, risk, fintech, supply chain finance, or data-heavy corporate positions can line up very well with Purdue’s strengths.
In terms of pure reputation specifically for finance jobs, Indiana usually has the edge. Purdue is a strong school, but it is not as closely identified with undergraduate finance recruiting as Kelley is. So if you are comparing how each name tends to land with employers in mainstream finance, Indiana is more often the one people point to first.
